We’ve gone six months without any new Sherlock and while Tumblr has been showing some interesting symptoms, I think there’s little real chance of harm.
The next episode, the BBC have confirmed, will be a standalone special. This will then be followed by three more episodes, though it’s not clear yet how much time will pass in the meantime.
Both will film next year, however, with the special going into production in January, the series later in 2015. If Martin Freeman is to be believed, the special will air at Christmas 2015, and so it seems reasonable to expect that the series will follow at some point in 2016. Summer, perhaps? That would be in step with the scheduling of the first two series.
The marketing has all been focused on the return of Moriarty, as teased by the end of the last episode. Officially, though, there have been no plot details released.
If the rumours we’re hearing are true, the next episode won’t just be aired at Christmas, it will also take place at Christmas. Shooting in January should certainly help with getting the weather correct.
We’ve got a long wait ahead of us but I’ll be keeping my ear to the ground.
Here’s a ‘new’ image, as released by the BBC this afternoon. It’s likely an outtake from an old photo shoot, but they’re calling it new so I will too.
